Creators and Staff

Josh Blaylock is a comic book writer, artist, and publisher based in Chicago, IL, and the founder and head of Devil's Due Entertainment. He maintains his creative roots writing the supernatural action series Mercy Sparx and the upcoming Igloo BBQ webcomic about a penguin struggling to make it in the comic industry and the big city. Other books include How to Self-Publish Comics: Not Just Create Them, Barack the Barbarian: No F#¢Ks Left, and Operation Nemesis: A [True] Story of Genocide and Revenge.

​He's famous for disrupting the industry over a decade ago by kickstarting the '80s retro boom, through a deal with Hasbro and Image Comics, and later as an indie publisher, bringing titles like G.I. Joe, Micronauts and Voltron back from obscurity. His stories and characters have seen translation into film, animation and toys across the world.

​Matt Merhoff is a comic book artist and illustrator from Los Angeles. He is best known for his work on MERCY SPARX with Josh Blaylock. When not drawing he enjoys watching costumed people punch and kick each other.

Pat Shand writes comics (Little Girl, Destiny NY, Snap Flash Hustle) and novels (Iron Man, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor). He runs Space Between Entertainment in New York, where he lives with his wife Amy and their army of cats.

Olivia Pelaez is a New Jersey based comic book artist and illustrator. She graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a degree in Cartooning. In 2009, she won the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future contest. She’s published work in a variety of anthologies and worked as the interior artist on a few creator owned series such as The Kitchen Witch, published by 215 Ink, and Little Girl, her current project published by Devil’s Due Publishing. When not working on comics, she likes to knit. She has two cats.

K Lynn Smith is an artist and writer from the Mid-Michigan area. She found her start in the comic book world as a cartoonist for her university newspaper. In 2006, her artwork won the Michigan Press Award, as well as the Helen Victoria Haynes World Peace Cartoon Contest.

She is currently working on the western webcomic Plume, published by Devil's Due Entertainment, and has been involved with projects such as GarfieldCards Against Humanity and the SIN Studios's video game, TUEBOR.


Ashley Witter is the illustrator for the comic book serial, SQUARRIORS. She recently worked with Yen Press illustrating and adapting the graphic novel of Anne Rice's INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE: CLAUDIA'S STORY and ANNE RICE'S WOLF GIFT. Ashley is also an illustrator for the Fantasy Flight card game, "Netrunner," the comic book series - BLOODTHIRSTY: ONE NATION UNDER WATER and the webcomic - SCORCH. Ashley graduated from Madison Area Technical College with a degree in Animation and Conceptual Development. She grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and currently lives in the Northwest suburbs of Chicagoland.


Ash Maczko is the creator and writer of the SQUARRIORS comic book serial. He is also the creator and organizer of the pop-culture event known as, "Count-I-Con." Ash lives in the Northwest suburbs of Chicagoland.


Shawn DePasquale is a Los Angeles based television, movie, comic book writer, and the writer of GALAXYS FOR HIRE. His first graphic novel SPACE, MN is currently being considered for motion picture adaptation by a major production company. His second graphic novel, PIXIES was adapted as an animated feature with a voice cast that includes Christopher Plummer and Alexa Vega (Spykids). Shawn is a jack-of-all-trades in the comic book industry, having lettered work for Image, Oni, Zenescope and more since 2003. When he's not working, Shawn enjoys long naps in large piles of kittens, surrounded by boxes of pizza with white sauce and the soothing sounds of John Coltrane playing from an old-timey record player. 

Sherard Jackson is a comic book artist, animator and writer whose work has been published by DC online,  Devil’s Due Publishing, Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, Antarctic Press, and others. His animation work includes the Warner Bros. film, A Scanner Darkly, and Collection Agency Film's, Flatland: the Movie. He is currently working on GALAXYS FOR HIRE for Devil's Due, and other creator-owned projects. Devil's Due also publishes his Israeli-cyberpunk graphic novel Semantic Lace
